Brush with the master
Costume design sketch by Satyajit Ray

When I got the chance to work with Satyajit Ray, I had no idea who he actually was. But as a kid I still recall that I was really impressed with his mysterious ability to create dancing Ghosts on the screen. But later when I was a teenager he allowed me to attend few of his shoots. Everyday, after pack-up I would go to him with my bunch of questions. Mostly anybody will be annoyed with this after a hectic days shoot, but not him.

Almost every good question will bring an unmistakable twinkle in his eyes before he would answer and explain. He would give precise books to read and films to watch on a particular subject.Learning was huge but I never realised how quitely he had pointed me in the right direction to continue my journey, to enjoy and unravel the mysteries of film.
